I am not a travel writer. I am an engineer who built a system that watches flight prices, and everything published on this site goes out under my name because I checked it.
What I actually do
By profession I am an electrical and electronic engineer. I hold a BSc Eng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, and I am currently reading for an MSc in Industrial Automation at the University of Moratuwa. My working life is low-voltage power distribution, switchboard design, control circuit schematics and the drawings that go with them — currently at the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, and before that at International Construction Consortium and Voltas Engineering. I am an associate member of the IET in the UK, and of the IESL and ECSL in Sri Lanka.
None of that makes me an authority on Bangkok. It is worth saying plainly, because a lot of travel sites imply an expertise they do not have, and you should know which kind of site this is.
Why an engineer runs a flight blog
The Flight Agent started as a scheduling problem, not a travel project. Fares move constantly, the movement is mostly noise, and a person cannot watch a route for six weeks to find the hour the price actually drops. A machine can. So I built one: it polls fares on the routes people ask it to watch, records every price it sees, and messages them when one falls below their number.
That is the part I can speak about with real authority, and it is the only claim to expertise I make here. I have the price history. When an article on this site says a route is usually cheapest at a particular time, or that a fare is unusually low, that is not a guess copied from another blog — it comes out of the prices the system recorded itself.
How the writing works
Openly and in full on the editorial policy page: articles are drafted with AI assistance, and none of them publishes automatically. A draft sits unpublished until I read it, open every source it cites, confirm the page says what the draft claims, and delete or rewrite whatever cannot be verified. Plenty of drafts never get published at all.
My name on an article means I did that check. It does not mean I wrote every sentence from scratch, and I am not going to pretend otherwise — but I am accountable for every claim in it.
Where I am likely to be wrong
Airline rules change without notice, and fees and baggage allowances change most often of all. I verify against the airline's own pages at the time of writing, and the date on each article is the date that was true. If you are about to spend money on the strength of something you read here, check the airline's own page as well — and if you find something wrong, tell me. There is one person to tell and he reads the mail.
